George's hangover cure

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Darren Anderton has revealed how George Graham’s morning after cure with a difference sparked the players into action against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

Boss George made the players sit down and watch a re-run of a video nasty - the defeat at Ipswich Town on Saturday - first thing on Sunday morning.

Anderton said: "The manager doesn’t mix his words, we had a meeting and we had to watch the game again on video the morning after.

"He told us what he thought and I think you know with the gaffer if you aren’t doing your bit you won’t be in the team.

"The lads went out and responded in the best possible way."

That response was a 4-2 victory against Newcastle in an amazing night at the Lane. There were three penalties, three sendings off and five goals in a 30-minute spell between the 22nd and 52nd minutes. Les Ferdinand then wrapped it up with a goal 13 minutes from time.

Anderton was heavily involved throughout - he was fouled for the first penalty and put us 2-1 up from the spot, missed the second penalty and crossed for Ferdinand’s clincher.

The midfielder reflected: "It was certainly eventful and we certainly make things difficult for ourselves. We were 3-1 up at the break, looking good and thought we might be able to enjoy it a bit more in the second half.

"But within a couple of minutes it was 3-2 and the sides were even. We then had to battle to get the fourth goal. It was hard out there and you have to keep your cool, especially when the referee is throwing red cards around like that - you don’t want to get too carried away!

"It was a big win for us especially after our last couple of away games."
