George supports venue choice
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
George Graham backs the Football Association’s decision to stage the FA Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford.
The 67,000-plus capacity stadium was chosen after it was concluded that there is no suitable venue available in London that would satisfy ticket demand.
It is on that criteria that George feels the correct decision has been made.
“It’s not ideal for everybody,” admitted George. “We understand that the travel is very inconvenient for both sets of fans, but you try and find the common denominator to please everybody and it’s impossible.
“The main thing is, there is hopefully enough tickets for both sets of supporters which was the first priority. It was always going to be difficult, there is no ideal venue, but it is logical and will allow a big gate.”
George added that he has always enjoyed visiting Old Trafford as a visiting manager, while not always enjoying success — but Manchester United won’t be there this time.
“I haven’t won with too many teams there, but has anybody?” quipped George.
“We’re delighted to be in the semi-final, it is something that the majority of the country didn’t expect, but we are there and are delighted to be there no matter who we play.”
The FA Executive Director David Davies, said earlier in a statement: “Even by recent standards, deciding on the venues for these matches was extremely difficult. Preliminary discussions took place even before Sunday’s quarter-finals. Ultimately, with the backing of police forces in several parts of the country, supporters groups and the clubs, we have reached a conclusion that will give as many fans as possible the chance to see these games.”
