George: Sergei's the new star
English Barclays Premiership
George Graham believes Sergei Rebrov can take over David Ginola's mantle at White Hart Lane.
The manager was full of praise for the diminutive striker after he scored his first two Premiership goals to help Spurs' remarkable recovery from 2-0 down to beat Everton 3-2 on Tuesday night.
The £11m capture from Dynamo Kiev threw us a lifeline with a goal just before the end of a nightmare first half to make it 2-1 before slotting home a penalty to level the scores on the hour. Three minutes later Les Ferdinand volleyed home to clinch the win.
Graham stated afterwards: "Sergei's a cool little character and once he settles in I think he will take over David Ginola's mantle as the idol of White Hart Lane."
The Ukrainian added briefly: "I am very pleased to have scored and I am happy with how things are going. I would like to thank the fans for all their support."
Graham was delighted that his side managed to climb a mountain and maintain a 100 per cent winning start at home. "In the first home game we were 1-0 down and managed to come back and win 3-1," he added. "This was a mountain to climb and the goal just before half-time was vital.
"The team spirit in the camp is first class. There are loads of goals in the Premiership and that is down to the fact that defending is poor. You see it on television - lots of goals but poor defending. At least it must have been very exciting for the fans."
