George: No repeats

English Barclays Premiership

George Graham insists there will be no repeats of last season’s brawl at Leeds United on Saturday.

Lee Bowyer’s two-footed lunge sparked the now infamous 20-man incident in February and although he is expecting a little added spice after leaving Elland Road for White Hart Lane two years ago, the manager does not expect it to go further than that.

George said: “We’re competitive and I want us to be competitive but within the laws of the game. So I don’t envisage any problems up there. Yes, because I was a previous manager, I’ll get a few boos but that normally brings the best out of me anyway.

“Besides, our disciplinary record has improved dramatically this season. We’ve the least number of bookings than anyone else. Maybe one credit I might get from the Spurs fans is that we are top of the Fair Play League!”

George is convinced David O’Leary’s men will be in the title shake up at the end of the season despite an indifferent, injury-affected start to the Premiership.

That hasn’t affected their Champions’ League form though — Leeds have beaten AC Milan and thrashed Besiktas 6-0 in their last two home games.

George added: “They have had their problems this season with injuries but the way they’ve bounced back after the Barcelona game has been fantastic.

“Who would have thought a couple of weeks ago after losing so convincingly against Barcelona they would have won their next two games and be top of the league? Fantastic.

“I think Leeds, with their full squad, will still be challenging for a place in the top three without question.”
