George forgets past Blues

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

George Graham will try to cast history aside when we travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

We go into the London derby without a win over Chelsea in over 10 years.

Although aware of those statistics — no doubt enough people have reminded him — the boss rightly insists those matches were in the past and this is all about the present.

“I’m not a great one for negative statistics,” George insisted. “What’s happened in the past has happened in the past.

“I think we’ve got to worry about today and tomorrow — today obviously because we want to win games and preparation for tomorrow.”

We’ve been unlucky in the recent past under George’s management. In his first game against Chelsea back in December 1998 Chris Armstrong was unluckily sent off, we led 2-1 before Barney Goldbaek hit a 35-yard screamer at the Lane in May 1999 and we then dominated both games last season only to lose 1-0 on both occasions.

George said: “I thought last season, with Chelsea going for the championship, that we acquitted ourselves very well.

“The two games were within a couple of weeks of one another and both 1-0 defeats.

“Both games were very tight, very close and I’m hoping this year the little bit of fortune you need in tight games goes our way.

“Unfortunately the old Tottenham injury hoodoo has come back again and we’re getting quite a few of our top players out injured, which is a bit sad.”
