Gary's back on track
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Gary Doherty is back on track at Spurs.
The young Irish international claimed earlier in the season that he believed he didn’t deserve to be in our first team plans and admitted he wasn’t playing well enough to be considered.
That picture seems to have changed. The versatile 20-year-old has been a fixture in the squad in the last couple of months and appeared numerous times on the bench.
On Wednesday night at Southampton he stepped off that bench for a full 30 minutes and many pundits are now tipping him to replace Sergei Rebrov at Portman Road on Saturday.
Doherty insisted: “Things are starting to go as planned now. The reserve games have gone quite well for me at centre-back and I’ve trained well. It was a disappointing result at Southampton but I enjoyed my half-hour out there.
“That was probably the longest I’ve played since coming on at half-time against Sunderland last season.
“The gaffer has had a word with me and said he’s quite happy with me at the moment so I’ve just got to keep going and hopefully, sooner rather than later, I might be involved a bit more.
“Les Ferdinand is injured, Steffen Iversen is injured as well so there are a few less options for the gaffer. I prefer centre-back but I’m willing to play up front if that’s what is needed. I’ll do my best.”
