Gary Mabbutt was thrilled to see the excitement among our fan base in Finland ahead of our friendly there this summer.
We’ll take on Scottish giants Celtic at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Saturday, August 2, as part of our preparations for the 2014-15 season.
After travelling to Helsinki this week, where he met up with members of Supporters’ Club Finland Spurs, legendary former player and current Club Ambassador Gary got a first-hand experience of our fans’ enthusiasm in that area of Europe.
And having spent time chatting with supporters and signing autographs, Gary was left in no doubt as to the levels of excitement ahead of our trip there in pre-season.
“It was great to spend time with our Finnish supporters in Helsinki, they are a very passionate group,” Gary said. “We have a lot of fans in northern Europe and it is always good to support them in any way we can.
“They are really looking forward to the team being here in August. The fact we are playing Celtic means it is a huge game to be a part of, a full-blooded contest between England and Scotland in Finland, and it is the local fans that will get the benefit of this.”
Gary isn’t the only ex-White Hart Lane player to have met up with Finland Spurs this year – the group recently recruited our former midfielder Teemu Tainio, who these days plays for HJK, as their first honorary member.
