Legend Gary Mabbutt joined hundreds of volunteers and children from the community at a fun-filled sports day held at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre to mark Give & Gain Day – the UK’s only national day of volunteering.
More than 230 children took part in the SportInspired Games, organised by charity Business In The Community and Haringey Council. SportInspired works in partnership with businesses and local authorities to help build confidence, activity levels and life-skills of young people through the power of sport.
Pupils from five Tottenham primary schools took part in a variety of competitions, with Gary on hand to reward the winning teams with prizes, trophies and medals.
Volunteers from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation were also present on the day, helping to encourage the children to try out a wide range of sporting activities available at the leisure centre.
Speaking at the event, Gary Mabbutt said: “Days like today where people from local businesses get involved in delivering a range of sports to young people in our community are extremely positive. Being able to introduce young people to lots of different sports means there is a greater chance they will find a sport they love and pursue it. This can be beneficial in helping to build their confidence and develop key skills for later life.”
