GARY LINEKER (1989-92)

The greatest striker of his generation and second in England's all-time international list, Gary Lineker scored 67 goals in 105 league games for Spurs and 80 in 138 in total.

Lineker made his name at Leicester City before an amazing 40-goal season at Everton in 1985-86 capped by taking the Golden Boot in the 1986 World Cup earned him a move to Barcelona.

He helped the Spanish giants to the Spanish Cup and Cup Winners Cup but was eventually played as a winger by Johann Cruyff.

Terry Venables stepped in and brought him to the Lane in 1989 and he responded by being top-scorer in his three seasons at the club, including a double in that famous 1991 FA Cup semi-final win against Arsenal at Wembley.

Lineker lifted the FA Cup later that season but the following season announced that he would be departing for Grampus Eight in Japan's new J-League.

Injury eventually ended his career in the Far East but he returned to a career in the media in England and is now the front man of the BBC's football coverage.
