Gardner seeks happy return
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Anthony Gardner does not harbour fond memories of our last trip to Loftus Road to face Fulham and is determined to put things right this time around.
We travelled to Fulham's temporary home in September 2002, unbeaten in the season and sitting on top of the Premiership. It looked for a long spell that the early-term promise was to continue when the team took a 2-0 lead into the break with goals from Dean Richards and Teddy Sheringham.
A decisive 3-0 lead was then snatched away shortly after half-time when Milenko Acimovic was denied a first Premiership goal by the flag of the assistant referee. This appeared to galvansise the home side and Junichi Inamoto reduced the deficit on 68 minutes.
Anthony then conceded a penalty that was netted by Steed Malbranque before Sylvain Legwinski sealed an unlikely win that our central defender does not care too much to remember.
"Yes, we were 2-0 up and lost 3-2 so I haven't got fond memories of the last time we went there, but we are playing quite well at the moment and are looking to going back there and trying to get some away points," he considered.
"They were putting a lot of pressure on us and found a way back into the game. I gave away a penalty as well and they nicked it right at the end.
"It was disappointing, but we want to go there and show them that we are a better side."
Fulham have already recorded a victory over us this season at the Lane and also secured a memorable triumph at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Evidence, Anthony suggests, of a team progressing nicely.
"Not many people expected them to be up there and they have gone to some difficult places and got results," he added. "They have done well, stuck at it and been consistent.
"It's up to us to break them down, we are confident and want to keep moving up the league."
