Fulham U18s v Spurs - Nigel's preview
13 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Our youngsters will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League when we visit Fulham on Saturday (November 14).
A 2-1 home victory over West Ham United last weekend means we head to the Cottagers’ Motspur Park training facility off the back of a positive result.
However, after suffering from a lack of clear goalscoring opportunities in recent matches, the players have been urged to make the most of their openings on Saturday in order to avoid a repeat of the 3-0 defeat we suffered at the hands of Fulham in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
“It’s been a good week on the training pitches, especially after the result last week, and now we’re looking forward to the match at Fulham,” said coach Nigel Gibbs, preparing for the trip in the absence of Under-18s Coach Kieran McKenna.
“We played Fulham a couple of months ago and it was a difficult game for us – and we’re not expecting it to be any easier this time. It’s never an easy game against them, they’re normally very strong, but it’s important that we go there and impose our style on them.
“We need to be more clinical in front of goal as well. We’ve had a lot of possession and a lot of the play in the final third recently but we haven’t really finished off many opportunities, so that’s something we’ve been looking at this week.
“We’ve also been working on moving the ball more quickly from one side of the pitch to the other, but we certainly need to be more clinical in our attacks. Lately we’ve dominated games and haven’t always seen the rewards, so we’ll be looking for some good performances from the boys this weekend.”
