Fulham 1-2 Spurs - Hugo's happy half-century
05 December 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris was delighted to mark his 50th appearance for us with some fine saves on the way to our 2-1 victory at Fulham.
The Cottagers found the French national team’s skipper in fine form on Wednesday night, our charismatic goalkeeper making a vital contribution as we scooped maximum points.
Only Ashkan Dejagah’s well-placed effort in the second period got past the 26-year-old as Hugo’s saves, coupled with long-range strikes from Vlad Chiriches and Lewis Holtby, saw us return to winning ways.
“It was a difficult game,” the stopper reflected. “The first goal put us in a difficult position but we had the character to change that and we are very happy to get three points because it was very important to come back close to the top four.
“I think after we went 1-0 down we tried to put them under pressure and they dropped and dropped and dropped, and we found the solution. Our equaliser was a fantastic goal by Vlad. It was very important for us.”
While admitting his delight at reaching his half-century of appearances for us, Hugo remains focussed as we prepare for another away trip on Saturday with the Stadium of Light – home of Sunderland – our destination.
“I hope it’s not the last!” the keeper joked after his 50th run-out. “I hope there will be a lot of games to come. I’m very happy to wear the Spurs jersey and I try to do my best every time, every day.
“But it was very important to win at Fulham and now it puts us in a better position. Now we’re going to try and get more points at Sunderland.”
