Frustration for Christian after derby draw

07 March 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen rued our inability to hold onto the advantage in the last 15 minutes of Saturday’s North London derby.

Having seen Aaron Ramsey put Arsenal a goal up shortly before the break at White Hart Lane, the Danish international midfielder pinpointed Francis Coquelin’s dismissal 10 minutes into the second period as the turning point as goals from Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane subsequently put us into a 2-1 lead.

Unfortunately, though, we were pegged back through Alexis Sanchez in the closing stages and it ended all square at 2-2, leaving Christian a frustrated man.

“The sending-off flipped a switch, everything turned around after that,” reflected the midfield craftsman. “We knew then that we needed to go forward, they would stay back a bit more, give us a bit more space and that’s what they did.

“We might even have scored too early – of course they came back afterwards but we created chances to score so it’s a bit unlucky and I’m very disappointed that we didn’t hold it for the rest of the game.

“They got a bit more confident when they scored their second goal, they wanted to bounce back after being 2-1 down and even with 10 men they tried to go forward.

“We tried as well, both teams had a few small chances but at the end I think one point is a little disappointing. I think we deserved more and we should have got more.”
