Friends become foe for Sandro

Sandro is determined to put one over his Brazilian team-mates at Chelsea when we travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

David Luiz has caught the eye since his January switch from Benfica while Ramires appears to have improved throughout his first season in the Premier League. However, the midfielder is an injury doubt for Saturday.

Heurelho Gomes and Blues defender Alex make it five Brazilians possibly on show at the Bridge.

Sandro entered the fray for injured Benoit Assou-Ekotto in the eighth minute our 2-2 draw against West Brom at the weekend and would love to take his place in the line-up for this huge London derby.

“This is a very important match for both teams,” said Sandro. “Chelsea are still in the race for the title, and we are still looking to finish in the top four. It will be a great atmosphere and we will give everything.

“Chelsea are a good team with lots of quality players. I have friends there, the Brazilians Ramires and David Luiz, but when the match is on, we’ll forget about that and give everything to win. I hope it’s a great match and we win.”

Sandro raised a wry smile when asked about his late chance to beat Arsenal last week.

With the score at 3-3, he cut into the box and struck a low shot that Wojciech Szczesny managed to keep out.

“I knew if I made that goal I’d be a hero for life!” he laughed. “It happened so quickly, I struck it well but the goalkeeper was there to make the save. Hopefully I will score next time.”
