Friend and foe in New York

Michael Dawson is ready to face an old friend and an old rival when we take on New York Red Bulls in the Barclays New York Cup, powered by Under Armour, on Tuesday night.

The old friend is his former team-mate at Spurs and popular midfielder Teemu Tainio, who made 83 appearances in all competitions for us between 2005-2008 and was part of our League Cup winning team in 2008.

The old rival is of course Thierry Henry, so often our nemesis during his time at Arsenal, who joined the Red Bulls in the summer of 2010.

He made his debut when we last met the Red Bulls in July, 2010 - and scored - but we won 2-1 thanks to goals from Robbie Keane and Gareth Bale.

We take on the Red Bulls after two draws in the first two friendlies of our USA tour - a 1-1 draw at LA Galaxy and goalless draw against Liverpool in Baltimore.

"Teemu is a good friend of mine, a great character," said Michael.

"He's a crazy character but on the pitch, he gives 100 per cent week in, week out. He’s a great lad. He moved on and I’m sure he’s loving it in New York.

"What a special player and goalscorer Henry was at Arsenal.

"Okay, he played for our rivals, but you have to take your hat off to him. Now he’s doing it for the Red Bulls."
