Freund on Gus
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Steffen Freund has hailed the arrival of Gustavo Poyet as another positive, progressive sign for the club.
Even though Steffen, along with Oyvind Leonhardsen, Simon Davies, Ledley King, Stephen Clemence, Tim Sherwood and Darren Anderton is, in theory, competing for midfield berths with the Uruguayan, our enforcer can only see the positives in Poyet’s recruitment.
"I know him very well from Chelsea and I think he played very well for them, scored a lot of goals and nearly every game he had a chance to score."
Steffen believes that the addition of campaigners such as Poyet can only be good for our burgeoning crop of youngsters who made such an impression last season.
"He has a lot of experience. That’s the right idea because we have a lot of young players and with him we have more experience and a good mix.
"He is definitely a good signing for the club. If he plays like the last games for Chelsea then I know he is a great player and that he will have a good season. The first year is always difficult but I think that with him we are stronger."
Steffen feels that the more help players like himself and Poyet give to the next generation, the quicker the younger lads will put the squeeze on them for a first team place — and insists that is the way it should be.
"The club looks for players with a name and experience and that is the right thing because we have young players and they need to have players with experience on their side.
"You can talk and learn from the older players and then, of course, the younger players can give pressure back to the older players. It is all positive pressure to play in the first eleven."
