Freund on first team

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Senior pro Steffen Freund reflects on the season gone and gives his verdict on the progress and prospects of his team-mates ahead of a return to pre-season training.

Ian Walker: It is always difficult for a goalkeeper if you have been number one for a long time and then you go to number two. You have always played and suddenly you have the feeling that you don’t have the chance to play. It is not like a player. We have 10 outfield positions. For a goalkeeper, if you go down to number two, it is difficult. But he did it the right way. He gave the answer on the pitch three or four times, two clean sheets and didn’t stop training and working hard.

Stephen Carr: If you look at last season, he is strong. He is going up now and he is class. When he is fit he is definitely the best right-back in the Premier League. He is a great player on the right side who can change the game.

Mauricio Taricco: It must have been a nightmare for him. Four operations, eight months out. I look forward to seeing him back. I don’t think it is right to talk now and put more pressure on him but he is a great left-back when he is fit.

Chris Perry: He played very well in the middle of the defence and it is not easy to beat him in a one-on-one situation. He has a lot of experience and he moves very well. You always have ups and downs and Chris is the same, but he is always there.

Darren Anderton: More injuries. He came back well after his Achilles injury but in the end it is terrible if you miss so many games. He didn’t play bad - it was just a terrible season because he wasn’t fit. I hope he can come back without injuries and then he is a very important player.

Tim Sherwood: He played a lot of games and was always there. An experienced player and an important player for the side. He can score goals and it is important for him to be injury free, but the season is so long, players like him and me pick up injuries.

Les Ferdinand: I can remember the hat-trick against Leicester and that was great. If he is fit, he plays more games, then I am very happy for him. He is 34 and a very fit footballer. I like to see him play.

Steffen Iversen: Like almost every player when he is fit he can play a vital role for us. If not, you have to work hard to get back and then you pick up another injury. That is the game in England. He is also an international player and sometimes he picks up injuries there.

Sergei Rebrov: He knows he can play better but I tell you now, if you are a foreigner and playing in England you need a year to understand the language and the football in the Premier League. That is why Sergei was okay. He fought for the team, he was available, ready to play. If you pick up injuries, it is always difficult. I know how strong he is and next season will be easier for him.

Gary Doherty: He is unbelievable. He is like Stephen Carr from last season, going forward all the time. He sometimes played in defence and striker in the same game and that is not easy. He did it very well and scored a lot of important goals. He is improving and if he continues that way he is very important for the future.
