Freund on first team 2
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Steffen Freund continues his player report on the past season, giving a view on the progress and prospects of his team-mates.
Neil Sullivan: He was magnificent, unbelievable. Just remember the two Arsenal games, amazing. You cannot say more. He is like a rock. He concentrates, is always there, but is always cool. He has presence. What a season.
Willem Korsten: Sometimes you don’t see him and then he will score a great goal and you think ‘what would I do for that left foot’. If you give him the feeling he is important for the team then he can do more.
Chris Armstrong: If he is fit he is always dangerous in the 18-yard box. He can always score goals. I don’t know what is next for Chris though because he has been injured for a long time, in the same area. I just hope it clears up.
Oyvind Leonhardsen: If he is fit then he is important for the team He has international experience, knows what you have to do. I like him because he is an honest player.
Ben Thatcher: The season was a nightmare and he knows that. But he can come back next season. A season to forget.
Luke Young: He improved all the time. Left-back isn’t his position but he was clever there. He is a young player and for the next season he now has the experience and you can put him in every position. He plays well and is never a player who you think you have to change, whatever position. That is not easy.
Stephen Clemence: He played both midfield and left wing-back. He played well in both positions. I see him like Luke Young. There is no problem playing him in the Premier League or whatever, you can put him the squad and you have no problems. Him and Youngy are over the mountain now. They know what to do in the Premier League and you can trust them.
Ledley King: I think he has a great future. If he can avoid injuries and is consistent then he is definitely the next English national player from Tottenham.
Matthew Etherington: He needs time but is going in the right way. You could see that against Manchester United. He is fighting, not giving the ball away and that is what I like to see. He is on that line where he has to realise that he has to work hard and think that he has to improve himself. He is only 19. What a future. If he can continue to fight and then add the skill on top then he is a dangerous player.
Simon Davies: He improved, especially in the last eight or nine games. That is why I said that although we had injuries, sometimes it is good for the future to put youngster in. He underlines that. He is not finished yet but he is going the right way. He has experience, knows what is going on and can improve.
Anthony Gardner: I would say exactly the same as what I said with Matthew and Simon. Those three players, if they stop now and think ‘I’m a Premier League player’ in two years they will be in the First Division. They have the future and talent to do it. Don’t think they are good enough now, then they go down.
Alton Thelwell: He is the same. He is a player who is perhaps not that skilful but is very fast and very strong and if he is fit, it is not easy to beat him in a one-on-one situation and that is important for a central defender. He has to continue working to go up further and further and in the end, he will.
