Fredi on fine win
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Fredi Kanoute conceded he did not anticipate the team storming into a 3-0 half-time lead against his former club Lyon in the Peace Cup final on Sunday.
Being a graduate from the Lyon youth academy, Fredi was an obvious target for a pre-match chat and the striker naturally outlined the significant strengths of Gerard Houllier's side - one packed with international talents.
So he admitted it took him slightly by surprise - and he was probably not alone in this - when the French champions were effectively out of the contest when the referee blew for half-time.
"Not like that!" smiled Fredi, a second half substitute. "I thought we could win but not by that much. We had a lot of the ball to start with and we took confidence from that in the first half, so it was good.
"Lyon do have very good players and we could see that even if they weren't allowed to display their full quality against us. They are very strong all over the pitch and this makes it a very good result for us."
Fredi believes the Korean confidence booster sets the squad up nicely for the forthcoming season, although he is well aware that Championship contenders Reading will provide a further challenging pre-season obstacle when we travel there on Saturday.
"Even though it is a friendly tournament we now have a trophy already. We played well and we deserved it. It sets us up nicely for the rest of the season.
"First though, I think it is going to be difficult at Reading and it is better for us that we will have to keep at the same level."
