Fredi: Avoid Cup trap
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Fredi Kanoute says the team must not fall into the trap of expecting an easy ticket to the quarter finals of the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The boys have already experienced tough obstacles in the season's Cup quest, with both Brighton and West Brom providing tricky tests in rounds three and four. The big striker insists thoughts of tackling a team from a lower division must be cast aside and the game must be approached in the same way as it would be for a top Premiership side.
"It is a kind of trap," considered Fredi. "If we start off too confidently that can be a trap, we mustn't do that and should go into the game as if we are playing Chelsea or teams like that.
"This is when we play the better football and I think we should start the game very seriously, not like last week. It shouldn't be a problem if we play properly and it is down to us now.
"I think it will be very difficult on Sunday as they have something to show. It is a knock-out competition and you have to give everything in the battle.
"Even though we're playing at home it will be a big test."
Fredi is hoping to improve on his personal record in the FA Cup, with the furthest he has progressed being the quarter-finals where West Ham were knocked out by... Tottenham!
"I haven't been further than the quarter final and, for me, this is the year I feel I have to do better. I think this could be a good year for us, we have to play our very best in the cup."
His teammate now and on the day, Michael Carrick remembers that March 2001 day a little better.
"I got to the quarter-finals and Tottenham knocked us out at our place," recalled Michael. "Gary Doc scored and that is the furthest I've got. It's not been a great competition for me so far, but hopefully I can change that."
For the record, the score was West Ham 2 Tottenham 3 with Rebrov (31 and 57) and Doherty (62) finding the net for us, Pearce (43) and Todorov (72) replying for the Hammers.
