Frank's got the knowledge
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Martin Jol said the key strength of new Sporting Director Frank Arnesen is his great knowledge of players.
Frank, who worked in Holland for 19 years at PSV Eindhoven, oversaw the development of many international stars during his 10 years as Sporting Director. The obvious example is that it was Frank who introduced a young Ronaldo to European football, the Brazilian frontman for a short time forming a strike partnership with Eidur Gudjohnsen.
"He knows a lot of players," said Martin. "PSV is a provincial club in Holland and Frank was responsible for getting many of their top players over the years to the club from many countries with great success.
"He can do the same job at Spurs."
Meanwhile, the Dutch first assistant coach very much appreciates the benefit of a thriving Academy at a club. Our own youth set-up last season saw several graduates given a taste of Premiership football with Dean Marney, Johnnie Jackson, Stephen Kelly and Mark Yeates all awarded chances.
"I always did the same," reflected Martin who, for the past six years, coached RKC Waalwijk. "At my team there were three or four in the team every year but, in my country, we sell them. It was good for us as we could often buy other players for less money and get better every year.
"Spurs will be different, everybody wants success, but there is a good Academy here with good players coming through and talent of 16 and 17 years of age. I think there is a big future for them, but this is a big club and you can't put five or six young players into the first team as we did in Holland. It is not possible.
"I hope we can bring one or two players a year through."
