Frank talking

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Frank Arnesen admitted he couldn't resist the challenge of trying to turn us into a force in the Premier League.

Our new Sporting Director was together with Head Coach Jacques Santini and first assistant coach Martin Jol at a press conference at the Lane on Wednesday afternoon and he outlined his eagerness to get cracking with the job and preparations for the new season.

This begins in earnest today with the return of the players to Spurs Lodge for the first day of pre-season training before the squad - minus the players who were on international duty in Euro 2004 - head off to Sweden on Sunday for a training camp and three games.

"I'm delighted and happy to be here, finally," said Frank before being introduced to the media. "It was a bit of a strange time the last couple of weeks because I was still working for PSV but I'm here now alongside Jacques, Martin Jol and we can now get things started for next season."

The long-standing Sporting Director of PSV Eindhoven conceded that it was not an easy decision to part company with the Dutch outfit after such a lengthy association, but the prospect of Spurs and Premiership was a challenge he couldn't resist.

"It's a big challenge but that's why we do it. All sportsmen have a big ambition level and I'm the same. I think I'm joining probably the best league in the world, the challenge is big and the competition here between the clubs is enormously hard. That it the challenge and I look forward to it.

"It was a big decision. I've been at PSV for 19 years, so it was always going to be difficult. I was there as player and the last ten years as Sporting Director. It's was difficult to leave but I took a big decision and the chance at a big club in London - Tottenham Hotspur - came along. So on one hand it's sad but on the other, I'm hoping to do a very good job at Tottenham."
