Foundation sees record numbers through Duke of Edinburgh Awards

20 December 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation hosted a Duke of Edinburgh Awards celebration to recognise 75 of their Bronze and Silver achievers from the local area.

This year the Foundation enrolled over 80 participants for the programme, which sees young people completing a series of self-improvement challenges, with 64 achieving Bronze and Silver status plus 11 working towards their Gold Awards.

2016 was the Foundation’s most successful year for sign-ups, with an increased number of females, BME participants and people with disabilities, as well as three people from the To Care Is To Do children in care project. Regular support was also provided for a group of LGBT young people throughout their Bronze Award assessments.

Additionally the Foundation helped five participants into employment, setting up interviews for a further four, while helping two to access a college of their choice after being initially declined.

Grant Cornwell MBE, Chief Executive, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “We are delighted to see the number and diversity of Duke of Edinburgh Award participants come through the Foundation as we continue to engage hard to reach sections of society.

"The experience and skills gained by each person will give them the chance to access pathways in education, employment and training and we look forward to supporting every individual as they work towards their Silver and Gold Awards.”

As well as being valued in higher education circles and with prospective employers, taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme develops leadership, teamwork and organisational skills, while providing experience of setting and achieving goals.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards are open to people aged 14-24. For more information please contact
