Football Aid: A success once again

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

As many of our supporters will know, each year the Club hosts a Football Aid event here at White Hart Lane.

This year the Club were delighted to host not one but two Football Aid matches and once again we are pleased to report that the event was a massive success with literally thousands of pounds raised to help support the work of many excellent voluntary organisations including diabetes charities and our own nominated charities.

The first game was a goal fest as the home side captained by Ricky Villa (his first playing appearance at White Hart Lane for 20 years!) beat Micky Hazard’s away side 8-4. Philip Caren was the home team hero with an impressive hat-trick.

The second match was again won by the home side, this time with a 6-1 score line. For this match Mitchell Thomas was the home team captain with Paul Allen as the away team captain.

All the players who took part thoroughly enjoyed the experience and if you are thinking of taking part next year, below is some feedback from some of those that took part this year:

Philip Caren - It was brilliant, I scored a hat trick for the home side and my brother was named man of the match for the away side. Thank you so much, it was the best thing I have ever done (outside of my wife & boys of course). Brilliant, funny, tiring, exhilarating and so very rewarding, really well organised, and your guy was just so helpful, as were Ricky Villa and Mickey Hazard. Thank you, forever in the debt of Football Aid, please keep up the good work.

Bob Caren - I have nothing but positive things to say about Football Aid and Tottenham Hotspur. This is the second year that I have been involved. The organisation has been fantastic and everything about the day has made it the special occasion I wanted it to be.

Steve Clinch - All I can say is how do you improve perfect? My guests were well looked after and it was as much a special day for them as was for me. I played in goal and let in quite a few goals, which would normally upset me, but with each goal that went in my smile got bigger. Ricky Villa and Micky Hazard were the perfect gentleman and nothing was any trouble for them and they were a major part of a fantastic day. Last night as I drove home I really did have to ask myself "Was it a dream". Many thanks to all involved and keep up the excellent work.
