Five questions for summer - Hugo Lloris

01 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

In the hot seat for the final instalment of our ‘Five questions for summer’ series is goalkeeper Hugo Lloris...

Having kept goal for the majority of our Premier League campaign in 2014-15, Hugo Lloris says the players created a number of “great moments” to take away from the last year.

Our French international stopper, who wore the captain’s armband for much of last season, played a key role as we secured memorable London derby victories against Chelsea and Arsenal at White Hart Lane.

Also a regular for us between the sticks in the Europa League, Hugo had the distinction of leading the team out at Wembley as we took on Chelsea in the Capital One Cup Final on March 1 and, save for a four-game spell on the sidelines because of a knee injury picked up in the opening stages of our 4-3 Premier League win over Leicester City later that month, was a frequent, reliable presence for us throughout the domestic campaign.

With 44 appearances to his name in all competitions last term, Hugo believes we have a good base to build on in 2015-16...

Thoughts on the season overall?
In general it was a good season. There were some ups and downs but we had some great moments to remember. We were involved in four competitions until February and a lot of young players came through and started playing regularly for the team. This is massive because they represent the future of the Club.

Your personal highlight of the season?
Two games in particular were unbelievable to play in – Chelsea and Arsenal at home. It was great to beat those teams in the way we did. We felt the presence of the fans around the pitch during those matches – they were so happy to see the team perform at that level.

Plans for the summer?
Spending time with my family and friends at home in Nice. That’s really important for me because they don’t get much of a chance to see me during the football season.

Thoughts on pre-season?
I’ve just been resting and not thinking about it too much, to be fair!

Hopes for next season?
We always want a better season. We expect to improve as a team and to get the Club as high as possible in the league. We also want to enjoy it as much as possible with our fans, to go far in cup competitions – that’s always a good feeling – and to win trophies. The expectation is always the same and we work every day for the chance to win something.

Our players have been sharing their answers to ‘Five questions for summer’ over the last couple of weeks. Catch up on the views of Nabil Bentaleb and Kyle Walker-Peters from earlier this week and look out for more content looking ahead to 2015-16 when pre-season training gets underway...
