Aaron Lennon made his first start for England as Saturday night's Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel ended in a goalless draw in Tel Aviv.

After seven substitute appearances, the winger started on the left of a 4-4-2 system and was heavily involved in the action in the first half before creating one of England's better chances for Frank Lampard on the hour and eventually being replaced by Stewart Downing in the 83rd minute.

Paul Robinson was back in goal and made only one serious save throughout, diving to his right to collect a shot from Tamuz in the first half.

Jermain Defoe entered the fray for Andy Johnson after 79 minutes and forced Nikopolidis into the save of the match with six minutes left, the home keeper out quickly to block his effort from close range.
