Fiorentina 2-0 Spurs (agg 3-1) - Mauricio's verdict

26 February 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino felt we deserved more over the two legs of our Europa League Round of 32 clash with Fiorentina after we suffered a 2-0 defeat in Florence to lose 3-1 on aggregate.

The key moments in Thursday night’s second leg went against us as first we missed a big chance with the scoreline still goalless in the first half before the home team capitalised on a mistake to open the scoring through Mario Gomez on 53 minutes.

Mohamed Salah then scored the second on 71 minutes.

In many ways the second leg was similar to last week’s first at the Lane as we started well, dominated possession and created chances – but again, like last week, it wasn’t to be.

“We’re all disappointed," said Head Coach Mauricio. "We created a lot of chances in the first half and we maybe deserved to score two goals.

“We created good chances but this is football, we didn’t score and in the second half, their first goal was our mistake and it was hard to come back after that.

“We played well and when you analyse both games, we deserved more and that’s why we’re disappointed.

“I thought we were better but they scored two more goals than us and that made it impossible to go through to the next round.”
