Fingers crossed for Ziege

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

John Gorman has his fingers crossed that Christian Ziege will complete next season unscathed.

The German wing-back suffered a career-threatening thigh injury on Boxing Day but amazingly fought his way back to appear again on the final day of last season.

Christian's quality down the left flank and magical set-piece play - who can forget his 30-yard free-kick against Arsenal at the Lane - was badly missed in the second half of last term.

Assistant boss John is hoping those serious problems are behind him and the wing-back axis of Christian and Stephen Carr can finally click into gear next season.

John pondered: "Christian was very unfortunate with what was a horrendous injury.

"We could have lost a leg, could have died, you never know. It was a terrible time for everyone.

"But he's back playing football again and it's wonderful to see that. Fingers crossed he'll play in the majority of games next season. That would be a bonus for us."

Christian's ill-fortune summed up our defensive problems last season.

John added: "We were very unfortunate with injuries. We couldn't consistently play the same back four or three as we like to play.

"We lost Christian, Deano, Anthony and Ledley for long spells but on the plus side Mauricio Tarrico was very consistent and Stephen Carr was a bonus after mising the year before.

"But it was never the same team week to week. It's not an excuse. It's a shame because being able to field the same players breeds consistency and understanding and that makes you stronger."
