Final pain for Pau's Spain at Euro Under-21 Championship

30 June 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

There was European Under-21 Championship Final agony for Pau Lopez on Friday night (June 30) as he saw his Spain Under-21s side suffer a 1-0 defeat to Germany.

The goalkeeper, who joined us on loan from Espanyol at the beginning of last season, was named among the substitutes as his nation – considered by many to be favourites for the tournament – slipped to a rare defeat at the final hurdle in Krakow, Poland, with Mitchell Weiser on target for Germany five minutes before the break.

Pau was also on the bench for Spain’s 3-1 victory over Italy in the semi-finals on Tuesday, although he did get 90 minutes under his belt in a 1-0 triumph against Serbia in his country’s final match of the group stage last week.
