Fergie in the frame?
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Steven Ferguson did his first team squad chances no harm at all with his goalscoring performance in front of the watching Glenn Hoddle at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
The 19-year-old Scot came on to replace Dave McEwen in the opening minutes of the reserves’ 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest and produced a display full of pace and verve, capped with an opportunist goal.
The striker joined in December from East Fife and has turned out regularly for the under-19s as well the reserve team. He was named on the bench for the first team game at Arsenal at the end of March, but has yet to taste senior action.
But, with Steffen Iversen, Les Ferdinand and now Dave McEwen almost certainly missing for the trip to Sunderland, Ferguson will await the first team squad list with added relish.
Stevie said of his unexpectedly long run out at the Lane: "It was a shame for Dave, he did well in the first few minutes and I was surprised to get on so early. I knew if my first touch of the match was good I’d have a good match and my first touch was okay.
One thing the Spurs frontline definitely wasn’t lacking following the introduction of the Scot was pace, Yannick Kamanan is certainly no slouch either, and the pair put Forest firmly on the back foot.
"We did quite well, we were obviously going to use our assets which is pace, getting behind the defenders and that, but I thought we should have put some chances away."
It has been a remarkable season for Ferguson, who has now been involved in five squads this season — East Fife youth and first team, Spurs under-19s, reserves and first team. So what does he make of his season spiced with variety?
"Basically it’s been from rags to riches to be honest, starting at the bottom and working my way up. Then to get on the bench… I was off last week with an ear infection and missed my chance, but hopefully with a performance like that in front of the manager I might get a chance at the weekend, but it’s up to him.
"I’ve had no experience of the first team and I would have to get used to it and hopefully I might get the chance of ten minutes on the park.
"I’ve just got to work hard every day in training, doing things right and impressing the manager."
