Federico praises fans

Tue 21 October 2014, 09:14|Tottenham Hotspur

Federico Fazio paid tribute to the travelling supporters after Saturday’s defeat to Manchester City.

The Argentine centre-half was handed a Premier League debut at the Etihad following his summer switch from Sevilla, but his afternoon took a turn for the worse when he was shown a straight red card for upending Sergio Aguero in front of goal with just over 20 minutes remaining.

City converted the resulting penalty through Aguero – their third spot kick of the game and the second they scored from – and pushed on from there to register a 4-1 win, Aguero responsible for all four goals with Christian Eriksen on target for us.

Federico, clearly deflated by events on the pitch, was keen to acknowledge our vocal travelling fan base on what was an emotional day for him.

“The fans were amazing for us,” he said. “For all those people in the away area and all the Tottenham fans I wanted to win today.

“We showed more than just fight and passion in the game. We competed well but we can still be more aggressive and do more to win games.

“It was my Premier League debut and I should be happy but I’m not because I wanted to win, I always want to win. We’ve got to work hard as a team now to compete in the upcoming games.

“The way we played was good but now we have to get back on the training pitch and prepare ourselves for the Europa League game on Thursday.”
