FD first overseas tournament a hit in USA
As part of our continued partnership activation work within North America and following on from the successful first team tour, the club's Football Development team launched their first ever competitive tournament outside of the UK in Maryland in August.
The Tottenham Hotspur America Cup, in partnership with Elite Tournaments was held at Covenant Park, Ellicott City in Maryland, featuring 22 teams from Under-12-Under-14.
The partnership with Elite Tournaments was officially launched pitchside before our pre-season friendly match against Liverpool at the M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
It will see the Tottenham Hotspur America Cup being delivered in key regions across the US over the coming years.
"We are delighted to announce our partnership with Elite Tournaments, who are the leading Tournament provider in the USA," said Mark Jones, Head of Football Development.
"Our first tournament was a huge success and the feedback from players, parents and coaches has been excellent. The organisation and structure of the event was extremely impressive and we would like to thank Elite Tournaments and Under Armour for their amazing support throughout the event."
Matt Libber, Vice President of Operations, Elite Tournaments, added: "The Tottenham Hotspur America Cup was a resounding success.
"We had great competition throughout the weekend. The combination of the overall event, player evaluations from Tottenham Hotspur Football Development Staff and Under Armour’s presence and Man of the Match awards provided participants with an unforgettable experience. We look forward to hosting the event again."
As part of the tournament, Tottenham Hotspur Football Development staff selected 10 players and invited them back to the UK in November for an Elite Player Development Residential Experience.
