FC Sheriff v Spurs - Andre's preview

24 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Andre Villas-Boas feels the chance to book a place in the knockout phase will drive the players on in tonight’s Europa League fixture at FC Sheriff.

We take on the Moldovan champions in Tiraspol in Matchday Three of Group K at 8pm local time, 6pm UK.

We’ve won two out of two so far in the group stages and a third win could take us through at the halfway point if Anji and Tromso play out a draw in Russia.

“We have a big opportunity to go to nine points and have the chance to qualify at such an early stage,” said Ande. “That motivation is key for us and very important.

“We strive to win every game, that’s our ambition as a team – a team that wants to move forward.

“By doing that here, we can put ourselves in an excellent position going forward. I think the players will embrace this game with that motivation because they have been excellent so far in this competition.”

FC Sheriff have won the Moldovan title 12 times and top the championship again with nine wins in 12 matches this term.

Looking at their squad, you immediately notice they have six Brazilian players – William Celstino, Ricardinho, Fernando, Cadu, Luvannor Henrique and Jhulliam.

Andre added: “They are influenced by the six Brazilians they have, very creative players particularly in midfield and in the channels.

“They are a counter-attacking team, breaking very quickly, so we will have to be aware of that.

“The most important thing for us will be our own principles and our style of play. If we continue to do that and be solid in defence, we can do something here.”
