FA's tribute to Bill

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chairman Geoff Thompson and Director of Football Development Trevor Brooking paid kind tributes on behalf of the Football Association following the loss of the great Bill Nicholson.

Thompson said 'the whole of English football feels this loss' while West Ham legend Brooking insisted Bill 'stood for everything that is good about football'.

Here are their tributes in full thanks to the FA's official website

FA Chairman Geoff Thompson said: "In Bill Nicholson we had a man who created one of the finest teams to ever play in this country. His Double-winning side of 1961 brought new levels of flair and style to the game.

"They were as entertaining as they were successful and set a standard that all teams since have aspired to emulate.

"Bill was a proud Yorkshireman and in many senses became the father of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club but the whole of English football feels this loss.

"Our thoughts are with his family and everyone at Tottenham."

Sir Trevor Brooking, The FA's Director of Football Development, knew Nicholson well. "Bill stood for everything that is good about football," he said. "He was a gentleman of the game, admired and respected by all.

"His philosophy of football and the players that he brought through have inspired generations. The contribution he made to the game will always be remembered."
