'Fantastic' team blend with home-grown lads - Andros

One of five Academy graduates who featured regularly for our senior side in 2014-15, Andros Townsend believes our young stars have a special connection with the fans – something he says bodes well for the future.
The flying winger appeared 35 times for us in all competitions last term, scoring six goals, and was the only player to find the net in the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup.
A member of the starting XI in the latter competition’s showpiece final against Chelsea at Wembley on March 1, Andros has been thrilled to join the likes of Harry Kane, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Danny Rose in making an impact at senior level after graduating from our youth ranks.
And with memorable Premier League wins against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal under our belts from last term, the England international has hailed the influence of our home-grown stars as we begin our preparations for 2015-16.
“It’s fantastic for the Club and the Academy to have a mix of talented young players combined with more experienced senior stars all working together in the first team,” said the 23-year-old.
“To get five home-grown players in the team at the same time is great and to have played in a cup final against the eventual champions last season – and to have held our own after beating them 5-3 with the same five players two months earlier – is incredible.
“Players who have come through the Academy know the Club inside-out and have been fans themselves so everyone knows what it means to represent Spurs. I think that was illustrated in the London derbies at White Hart Lane last season.”
