Fantastic support shown for Poppy Appeal

03 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

We should like to thank fans for their generosity in supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal at last night’s match.

The Club sold out of its limited edition Poppy Pin Badges at the game, raising over £6,000 for the Poppy Appeal alone.

Poppy sellers from the Legion were in operation around the stadium and received a fantastic response from fans, as did the Poppy Wall on Bill Nicholson Way where fans were able to pay their respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

It was at the Poppy Wall where a poignant moment took place shortly before kick-off, as a Trumpeter from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force played the Last Post, impeccably observed by fans on their way into the stadium.

The Trumpeter was one of over 30 servicemen and women in attendance at last night’s game, made up of members of two of our Official Supporters Clubs, Armed Forces Spurs and RAF Spurs, and members of the Rifles Regiment.

Flt Lt Tom Cousins, Chairman of Armed Forces Spurs, said: “It was a great night, made even better by the result and the great turnout from members of the Armed Forces. We thank the Club for making last night possible.

“The paying of respects during the Last Post is always very poignant for members of the Armed Forces but for serving Spurs fans to be able to do it at White Hart Lane means even more.”

Poppy sellers will once again be in operation at Thursday night’s game with Anderlecht at the Lane for fans to raise further funds for the Poppy Appeal.

The team will then wear special edition Poppy shirts during the North London derby at Arsenal on Remembrance Sunday, that will be signed and auctioned off for the Poppy Appeal.

Please note that a Minute’s Silence will be held prior to this match, and we should like to remind travelling fans to please be respectful of this if entering the stadium or concourse close to the 4pm kick off at the Emirates.
