Fan-base continues to grow Stateside
On the back of our US tour earlier in the year, the Club’s fan-base continues to grow across the USA - with four new Official Supporters Clubs formed in the last six months and more in the pipeline.
South Carolina and Howard County are the latest clubs to join the worldwide Spurs family, taking the total to 11 in the States. There is also further interest coming from Seattle, Atlanta, Kansas, Memphis and New Jersey.
The team travelled to America for pre-season training and friendly matches in 2010 and 2012.
In 2010, we enjoyed successful games against our partner club San Jose Earthquakes and then took part in the Barclays New York Challenge against Sporting Lisbon and New York Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena, New Jersey.
We enjoyed another summer in the States this year, kicking-off in Los Angeles and travelling to Baltimore and New York. We played MLS Cup finalists LA Galaxy, Liverpool at Baltimore Ravens' huge M&T Bank Stadium and Red Bulls again, this time winning the Barclays New York Cup.
Fans flocked to open training sessions in all three cities and Steffen Freund and Tony Parks met Official Supporters Clubs in special Q&A sessions.
The summer also saw the launch of landmark grassroots partnerships as our Global Coaching Programme continues to go from strength to strength internationally. The Club announced partnerships with Soccer Association of Columbia and Elite Tournaments in Baltimore, Andromeda FC in Dallas and DMS11 Academy in Los Angeles, which will all see our coaches heading to the US to take part in player developments throughout the year, plus residential experiences back in the UK. Interest in the US has also no doubt been sparked further by our new technical partnership with Under Armour and the arrival of Clint Dempsey, a legendary striker for the US National Team and recently named USA Soccer's Male Athlete of the Year for the third time.
Indeed, sales of Clint's number 2 shirt back 'home' in the US have rocketed since his arrival on transfer deadline day.
Supporters from New York and Boston have already visited White Hart Lane this season with DC Spurs (Washington) scheduled to take in a match next year.
