FA Youth Cup - Connor's double delight
03 December 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Goalscorer Connor Ogilvie was pleased to have put some of our training ground methods into practise during our 2-1 win against Middlesbrough in the FA Youth Cup on Monday.
The versatile defender scored either side of the half-time interval to put our youngsters into a 2-0 lead at Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium, before Bryn Morris pulled one back for Boro with six minutes remaining.
Connor’s first goal saw him lose his marker following Harry Winks’ corner kick and head powerfully into the net – and the defender admitted that’s something that had been worked on ahead of the third round tie.
“We’ve been practising that for weeks in training so I’m happy that it came off,” he insisted, before praising his team-mates after our victory. “We’ve got a great team here. Collectively it was a great team performance.”
Connor’s second goal was a sublime free-kick that sailed into the top corner – and the youngster admitted it was a great feeling to celebrate in front of the roaring Spurs fans, who were present in their numbers to support the lads on Monday.
“It’s a great feeling, scoring two and winning 2-1,” he went on. “It’s an absolutely fantastic feeling. It was a bit of a shock to see them (the supporters) here actually – I didn’t think there was going to be that many people, but it was a real confidence booster.”
