Excellent performance - Andre

Andre Villas-Boas paid tribute to the players after Sunday’s outstanding 3-1 win at Reading.

Our first victory in the Premier League this season - and Andre’s first as Head Coach - was achieved in emphatic style at the Madejski Stadium.

Jermain Defoe (2) and Gareth Bale scored as we led 1-0 at half-time and stretched the lead to 3-0 before the home team's consolation in the last minute.

Mousa Dembele excelled in central midfield alongside Sandro in his first start for us while Kyle Naughton marked his first league start with an accomplished display at left-back. Clint Dempsey also made his Spurs debut as a second half substitute.

“It was an excellent performance,” said Andre.

“I’m extremely happy because even through the difficulties we’ve been having and results not going our way, we’ve managed to mix the performance and the result and give everyone a lift of confidence.

“Hopefully, it’s the boost we’ve been looking for.

“In the end, you have to praise the players because they were tremendous.

“The focus, the responsibility and their desire was present during the 90 minutes and they felt completely committed to winning the game for the fans.”
