Every player is ready, always - Michel
05 July 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Michel Vorm is always ready to step up to the plate - and you only have to turn the clock back a year to know why he’ll maintain that professional intensity for the next 11 months.
The Dutch goalkeeper was called into action on the first day of last season when Hugo Lloris suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of our Premier League opener at Everton.
Michel, 33, made a fine save just before half-time and that enabled us to come away from Goodison with a creditable draw having trailed early.
He went on to start the next two games - he was outstanding against Liverpool at the Lane - and made 11 appearances in all competitions in the 2016-17 campaign.
“The coaching staff make sure you are ready and that’s not just me, that’s everyone in the squad,” said Michel, into his 17th season as a professional. “That’s the strength of this team, the squad. Okay, some play more than others, but everyone is ready.
“Of course, I remember Everton at the start of last season and for me, it’s simple. I know Hugo is number one and I have to be ready, as I’ve always been, to keep him sharp and to play if I’m called upon.
“As a squad, we just want to improve. If you look at the stats last season, it was amazing. It was just a shame we didn’t get something to show for it, but that drives us again. I look forward to it all again.”
The Premier League season begins at Newcastle on Sunday 13 August. Before that, we have been invited to take on Italian champions Juventus at Wembley on Saturday 5 August - details HERE...
