Everton v Tottenham Hotspur

Over the past few seasons, Everton and Tottenham have provided their fans with an abundance of entertainment each time the two sides have clashed. The last four games have produced a total of 19 goals, during which time Spurs have won three times and drawn once.

In fact, Tottenham's record against the Toffees has been excellent in recent years. Since the start of the Premiership, Spurs have won 10 of the 17 league meetings between the clubs, while Everton have won just once.

Given that record and their recent run of form - five defeats and a draw from their last six games - Walter Smith's side are unlikely to go into this game overly confident. However, they did show plenty of fighting spirit to come from behind and claim victory against Watford in the FA Cup last Saturday, and if they can reproduce that sort of performance, they may fare better than they usually do against Spurs.

If Smith's side are to grab all three points, a key performer for them will surely be Thomas Gravesen. The dynamic Danish midfielder put in a disastrous display against Spurs earlier in the season, conceding a penalty with a comical handball, which gave Tottenham the equalising goal as they came from two goals down to win 3-2.

Despite that disappointment, Gravesen has settled in to life in the Premiership extremely well this term. His harrying of opponents has been an integral part of Everton's game plan, and indeed no other Toffee has made more than the 57 challenges that the Dane has managed.

The former Hamburg midfielder may have to be at his combative best on Saturday, as Spurs search for their opening away victory of the season. Summer signing Sergei Rebrov scored his first goals of the Premiership campaign against Everton back in September, and if the Ukrainian can continue his recent record in front of goal, he should prove more than a handful for Everton's defenders.

So far this season, Rebrov has scored with a healthy 18% of his shots. Indeed the former Dynamo Kiev star could be worth a flutter to grab the opening goal against Smith's side at odds of 13/2 .

Everton have few players who can match Rebrov in terms of finishing. Over the 2000-01 campaign, the Toffees have scored with just 9% of their attempts on goal - three percentage points worse than Tottenham and the second worst ratio in the Premiership - although the returning Kevin Campbell may improve that figure now that he is fit.

While Everton are experiencing their worst run of form this season, a visit from a Tottenham side who have yet to win away from home in the league may prove just the tonic. However, George Graham's team managed to squeeze an FA Cup win away from White Hart Lane last Saturday and may finally end their abysmal run on the road at Goodison Park.

Matchday Referee: A D'Urso

During the last four games between these sides at Goodison Park, a whopping total of 26 bookings has been produced. That figure could rise significantly on Saturday as official Andy D'Urso has already dished out 40 bookings this season - the third highest total amongst Premiership referees.
