Everton v Spurs - Mauricio's preview
03 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
You would expect goals at Goodison on Sunday - but Mauricio Pochettino is aiming to keep them to one end as we take on Everton.
There have been 41 goals in 10 matches so far in the Premier League at the home of the Toffees, joint-top with City's Etihad Stadium, while Everton's total of 22 home goals is only bettered by City's 29.
Meanwhile, our 15 goals scored on the road is only topped by Leicester (21) and Arsenal (18).
Having said all that, we played out a goalless draw at the Lane back in August where Tim Howard kept us at bay - we racked up 20 efforts at goal that afternoon.
Below: Mauricio previews Everton and talks about 2015, the halfway stage and team news
We go into our first match of 2016 (4pm KO) on a run of three-successive wins in fourth place while Everton have only lost two of their last nine - in fact two of their last three - but sit 12th in the table.
"Everton have some very good players and Everton-Tottenham, Tottenham-Everton, these games are like a derby," said Mauricio.
"So we expect a tough game, as always. Roberto Martinez is a great manager and it’s true, Everton’s philosophy is a very offensive style and they have scored a lot of goals in the last few games.
"But you never know. Always in football, every game is different.
"We will try to do our jobs and try to win the game - this is our objective as we try to stay high up the table."
