Everton U21s v Spurs - Ugo's preview
31 August 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Ugo Ehiogu is looking for our Under-21s to make a positive start to their Premier League International Cup campaign on the big stage of Goodison Park this afternoon (Bank Holiday Monday, August 31).
Our youngsters have travelled north to take on Everton in the first of three games in the opening stage of the competition, with home matches against Schalke and Porto to come later in the season.
Under-21s Coach Ugo, who has already seen his charges defeat the Toffees in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League this term, says the opportunity to play at a Premier League stadium is one the boys will relish.
And he has called for the players to continue the sharpness they’ve shown in training following the disappointment of last weekend’s narrow loss at Sunderland.
“It’s always disappointing to lose football matches but the reaction from the players has started already in training and we want that to continue in the game with all the things we’ve talked about with the individuals,” said Ugo.
“The players have been hungry and aggressive on the training pitches this week and the quality has been good.
“Obviously it’s a new competition for us today but the opposition probably makes it more of a league game in some ways.
“Naturally we want to win the match and try to qualify as early as possible, while an added bonus for us is that we’re playing at Goodison Park. It’s another massive stadium and to have the opportunity to play there gives more valuable experience to the boys.”
Kick-off is at 2pm today. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates from the game.
