Mauricio Pochettino led the tributes to Harry Kane after the Academy graduate, ‘one of our own’, became the latest member of our ‘100 Club’ in Saturday’s outstanding 3-0 win at Everton.
Harry’s 100th goal was somewhat fortuitous - a cross from the right that arrowed into the far corner - but it paved the way for a dominant display at one of the toughest stadiums to get a result in the Premier League.
That opener on 28 minutes saw Harry become the 17th player to score 100 goals for Spurs. His second right at the start of the second half made it 3-0 and took his Spurs tally to 101 goals in 169 appearances.
Mauricio said: “Harry is fantastic, one of the best strikers in the world, no doubt about that. I congratulate him because he deserves it. He’s not only a great striker but he’s a great man as well and I’m very proud to work with him.”

In-between Harry’s goals, Christian Eriksen drilled home from close range after Ben Davies’ shot was parried out by Jordan Pickford. The goalkeeper kept out Harry and Christian in the second half as we cut the home side open on numerous occasions. At the other end, Davinson Sanchez impressed on his full debut as part of our back three with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
Mauricio added: “Davinson was really good, a really solid performance. I’m pleased for him. It’s always difficult here (at Everton) and he’s still very young, 21 and the Premier League is always difficult but he was very calm and relaxed on the pitch.”
What did you think about the performance?
Mauricio: “It was a very solid performance and I’m very pleased. It was an amazing effort from all the team. I’m very happy, three very important points for us at the start of a busy period. I’m so pleased and I can only congratulate our players.”
It feels like a statement win at Goodison Park…
Mauricio: “It’s true we’re early in the season but it’s always important to win games and a win in this way really builds confidence. We’re so happy in the way we played.”
What pleased you most?
Mauricio: “Everything! The character, the personality and the way we tried to play was fantastic.”
