Euro 2016 - Ben's Wales bow out

06 July 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Ben Davies watched on from the sidelines as Wales’ historic run at Euro 2016 came to an end with a semi-final defeat to Portugal on Wednesday night (July 6).

Our hard-working left-back was one of two Welsh players suspended for the high-profile clash in Lyon – Aaron Ramsey being the other – after picking up two yellow cards in his nation’s first five matches in the competition.

As such, Ben was powerless to prevent Portugal from running out 2-0 winners in what was Wales’ first ever major tournament semi-final.

Two goals in three minutes from Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani shortly after half-time got the job done for Portugal, who will face either France or Germany in Sunday’s Final.

Ben had been ever-present at the tournament for Wales prior to his enforced absence on Wednesday, but his side’s exit means that Hugo Lloris, captain of France, is the only Spurs player left in the competition.

Les Bleus take on Germany in Marseille in the other semi-final on Thursday evening, kick-off 8pm UK time.
