Etienne to draw on past cup experience

Etienne Capoue believes the disappointment of losing out at the semi-final stage in the French League Cup with his former club will spur him on as we prepare to face Sheffield United in the Capital One Cup’s penultimate round.

The French midfielder was part of the Toulouse side that lost to Marseille after extra time in the last four of the Coupe de la Ligue in 2010 – the latter side going on to lift the trophy that year.

With League One Sheffield United standing between us and Wembley this season, the 26-year-old is eager for us to see off the Blades – but has warned against complacency ahead of Wednesday’s first leg at White Hart Lane.

“It was disappointing to lose that game with Toulouse but the cup run was a good experience,” said Etienne, who was a late substitute in our 4-0 win over Newcastle in the last round.

“I think I’m more intelligent to prepare for our games against Sheffield United as a result of that match and I really, really hope we can go to Wembley.

“We are very excited about both games. We have to start well in this first leg, especially as we are at home, and be clever in the second leg in Sheffield.

“We have to respect Sheffield United. We know what they can do. If they are here in the semi-finals it says it all about their talents.”
