Eriksen impressed with Club's ambition

04 September 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen sat down for a chat with Spurs TV after signing for the Club last week.

Here is a transcript of the interview as our Danish international spent his first day at the training centre.

Welcome to Spurs, Christian. What are your initial thoughts on joining the club?

Christian: “It’s really exciting to be here, when you look at the training complex, it’s a beautiful place.”

What do you know about Spurs?

“Everyone has followed the development from Spurs, it only goes upward and that’s what I want to be part of, one of the biggest clubs in England. I know also there haven’t been that many Danish people here, I think maybe I’m the second!”

Are you looking forward to the challenge of the Premier League and our ambition of making the top four again?

“For sure, I’ve played Champions League for the last three years at Ajax and I know what it’s all about, the best place to be. Everyone wants that and me too.”

You are one of a number of signings this summer, what do you think of the squad?

“Yes, it’s really exciting when you look at the players the Club is getting and I’m one of them. The Club is going up, the players also and that’s what I want to be a part of. Hopefully it will go well.”

One player you know well here is Jan Vertonghen, from your days together at Ajax. Did you speak to him about Spurs?

“Yes, and he said only good things. I spoke with him a few times and he’s a really good guy. From what I’ve heard he’s also one of the funny guys here.”

Of course, we had a famous Danish player here – Allan Nielsen, who scored the winning goal in the 1999 League Cup Final...

“Yes, I’m under pressure! That’s true! It will be an exciting time for Danish people as well.”

Are you looking forward to the challenge of the Premier League?

“Yes, every game will be like a Champions League game for me and that’s what I want. That’s why I moved, I want every game to be exciting. I’m really excited.”

Finally, what are your hopes for the new season?

“What everyone wants and that’s to be one of the top three - maybe even the top!”
