Erik seeks first day tonic

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Erik Edman believes the securing of three points at Portsmouth this afternoon would provide the ideal tonic for the squad as they seek to find their Premiership feet in the the new campaign.

Confidence is already ticking along nicely after a promising pre-season but Erik reasons results in preparation count for little when it comes to the real thing.

"To win is the big goal for us, to go there and try to pick up three points," considered the Swede. "A draw would also be a good start, I think. If we keep a clean sheet and stay solid at the back we will always create some chances and it will be up to the attacking players to nail them.

"We should not get carried away, we had a good pre-season with some great results, but we know it is going to tough. It is all about how many points we can get, not about pre-season games. We have to start well on Saturday and go from there.

"A good start is important, last season we started well and gained self confidence before struggling a bit later on."

Erik added he does not really subscribe to the view that a trip to Fratton Park - where we have suffered reverses in the last two seasons - is not the ideal place to begin our season.

"I think everybody is really excited about the first day of the season. You could argue over whether it is a good game to start with or not, but you have to go to every place my view is just get on with it.

"We have to focus on what we are good at, we have a good team here and we will go out and do what we have to do.

"I feel pretty good at the moment, the best I have felt so far."
