Erik seeks Boro remedy
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Erik Edman described the Aston Villa encounter on Monday as a missed opportunity and is determined to get back on the points trail against Middlesbrough at the Lane on Sunday.
The team created good openings to secure at least some reward at Villa Park and the threat to our goal was minimal until Nolberto Solano was able to turn in the penalty area following a corner on 57 minutes. The strike from the ex-Newcastle wide man arrived after a sustained spell of pressure on the home goal in the 12 minutes following the break.
The Swede was not on the pitch at this point after suffering an Achilles problem but regrets that the home side were not punished during our spell on top and agrees it was an opportunity missed.
"That is how I feel," reflected the full-back who anticipates being available for the Middlesbrough clash. "I also felt like that after the game against Arsenal as I feel they could definitely have been beaten at that time. The same goes for Monday.
"Everybody is working hard, that is not a problem, we are maybe just lacking a little bit of luck at the moment, the fortune that would give us extra confidence. I have every hope this will happen soon because we do work hard."
However, Erik added that he realises there is more to it and luck and fortune cannot be relied upon in games.
"Definitely, you always have to deserve your luck and it comes and goes. You have to make it work for you."
Meanwhile, the Swedish defender of the year is hoping he will soon be able to display more of his attacking nature with Martin Jol now encouraging the full-back to push forward in support of the midfield and front men. He enjoyed a reputation at former club Heerenveen and does for his national team of being a specialist in pinpoint crosses and free-kicks.
"It will definitely help me in the long term. Hopefully it will be on Sunday and I'll be able to push up a bit and make some crosses. This is the feeling I have.
"First of all I have to get to real peak fitness to do that again, then hopefully Martin will give me a role where I can attack and make crosses. For me this is the best way for a full-back to play."
The next opportunity will hopefully come against an in-form Boro side but he is not expecting an easy contest on the day, perhaps having to counter the threat of of Bolo Zenden who has thrived since being handed a roving role since the emergence of Stuart Downing.
"He had already left for Barcelona when I went to Holland. I know though that he is a great dribbler with the ball and has a great shot.
"Middlesbrough are on a good run and it will definitely be a tough game for us."
