Erik hopes for second time lucky

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Erik Edman hopes his second season in English football will be the one where he really establishes himself as a Premiership performer.

The Swedish international joined up from Heerenveen in Holland last summer after starring for his country in the finals of Euro 2004. His national service and change of club meant he did not really have much of a break ahead of his first season, a campaign that was hampered for him by injuries.

After enjoying a close-season holiday this time around, Erik is now targeting a more consistent 'season two' as a Spurs player.

"That is what I am hoping and aiming for," he insisted. "If I can stay fit for a long time then I know I can keep a high level. I need to work on my fitness to get comfortable again after the break.

"I feel I am further on at this point than a year ago. I feel I have a lot more to give than I gave in the Peace Cup, for example.

"I went to Sardinia for one week and it was worth so much for me in recovering physically and mentally from last season. I am now looking forward to the new season and I will do everything I can to make the left back position my own."

Erik, who departed the Peace Cup final early due to an Achilles problem that he now reports has eased, feels the standard of games played in South Korea will benefit the squad as the new season approaches.

"We won the cup and, although we were not yet 100 per cent fit, we performed pretty well against really good teams. Everybody is really quite positive about the trip.

"It was important to get in some good games before the season starts, to remind yourself what it is all about again. The team looks pretty sharp but, if I look at myself, I probably need another week and then I will be ready for it - I am always a bit of a slow starter."
